The Salzburg Recital, Kissin (2-CD)
Discs: 2
Record Label: Deutsche Grammophon
Release Date: September 2, 2022
“Opening his program with Alban Berg’s emotionally intense Piano Sonata, Kissin delivers a powerfully controlled interpretation that places great emphasis on structural cohesion and textural clarity . . . With its generous selection of works by Chopin, the second half of Kissin’s recital finds the pianist on familiar ground.” — BBC Music Magazine
In August 2021, as the Salzburg Festival made a meticulously planned return to full capacity, Evgeny Kissin drew a sold-out crowd to the city’s Grosses Festspielhaus. He treated his audience to a strikingly original program of works by Berg, Chopin, Gershwin and, to the surprise of some, Khrennikov. A generous selection of encores featured Mendelssohn and Debussy, as well as more Chopin and one of Kissin’s own compositions.
Recorded live at the Grosses Festspielhaus, Salzburg, August 14, 2021.
