“Solti’s is a warm and affectionate account of the work . . . freshly, engagingly phrased and, elsewhere, most attentive to both music and text.” — Gramophone
The award-winning 1978 recording of Brahms’ German Requiem is available again, courtesy of Universal Classics. In 1978, Sir Georg Solti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra celebrated the music of Johannes Brahms. The Brahms festival ended with a Friday evening performance of this work at Carnegie Hall, regarded as “wholly satisfying . . . in musical and emotional terms” (The New York Times). Kiri Te Kanawa and Bernd Weikl are supported by the masterful Chicago Symphony Chorus, prepared by longtime director Margaret Hillis.
