Renowned Italian conductor Riccardo Muti — known for his personal and compelling interpretations of the music of Giuseppe Verdi — leads a star-studded cast of soloists in I vespri siciliani. The opera tells the tragic love story of Elena and Arrigo, Sicilians unhappy with the French occupation whose wedding signals the death of those around them. Originally premiered in French and very much rooted in the French style, it was quickly translated into Italian following its premiere in 1855.
