Am 9. Oktober 1947 leitete Artur Rodziński sein Antrittskonzert als vierter Musikdirektor des Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Drei Monate später gab der Vorstand des Ensembles bekannt, dass er für die folgende Saison wegen Streitigkeiten über Kosten und künstlerische Kontrolle nicht wieder engagiert werden würde. Seine einzige Saison war jedoch ein voller Erfolg bei Kritikern und Publikum und führte zu einer Handvoll denkwürdiger Aufnahmen. Diese Veröffentlichung vereint diese historischen Aufnahmen zum ersten Mal auf einer einzigen Veröffentlichung und fügt den nicht unbedeutenden Bonus seiner kompletten Aufnahmen für das Remington Label hinzu.
Jede Aufnahme wurde von Mark Obert-Thorn in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Nathan Brown, Frederick P. Fellers und Charles Niss sorgfältig restauriert.
