Dieser fünfte Band historischer Aufnahmen von Frederick Stock mit dem Chicago Symphony Orchestra enthält seine letzten Aufnahmen für Columbia sowie die erste Schallplatte der Victor-Aufnahmen von 1941.
Im November 1940 nahm das Orchester während einer Tournee in New York eine elektrisierende Aufführung von Brahms' Dritter Symphonie auf. Im folgenden Jahr nahmen Stock und das CSO zwei Tage lang intensiv auf und produzierten eine Sammlung von Ouvertüren und leichteren klassischen Werken sowie Schumanns Vierte Symphonie.
Für die 50. Saison des CSO beauftragte Stock eine Reihe berühmter Komponisten, neue Werke beizusteuern, die vom Ensemble uraufgeführt werden sollten, darunter Strawinskys Symphonie in C, Miaskowskys Symphonie Nr. 1, Kodálys Konzert für Orchester und Milhauds Erste Symphonie. Das einzige Werk aus diesem Unterfangen, das Stock aufnahm, war Waltons Scapino-Ouvertüre, die während dieser Marathon-Aufnahmesitzung im April 1941 entstand.
