Ahmad Jamal at the Jazz Showcase: Live in Chicago presents the first-ever release of the piano legend’s trio with bassist John Heard and longtime drummer Frank Gant, recorded live at Joe Segal’s Jazz Showcase on March 20–21, 1976. Released by Resonance Records, this 2-CD set was mastered from the original tapes and captures Jamal in an intimate Chicago club setting with his unmistakable blend of elegance, space, rhythmic surprise and melodic invention.
Featuring expansive performances of “Ahmad’s Song,” “Wave,” “Have You Met Miss Jones,” “Dolphin Dance,” “Prelude to a Kiss” and more, the album documents one of jazz’s most influential pianists in richly communicative live form. The deluxe package includes newly curated liner notes and interviews, making it both a vivid performance document and an essential archival release for Ahmad Jamal collectors.
