“Kavakos plays with his customary big, rich sound and wonderful timbre. The Larghetto is lovely in both the solo and orchestral parts. Few current violinists spin such a nuanced, silky legato line.” — Fanfare
Leonidas Kavakos is recognized across the world as a violinist and artist of rare quality, known at the highest level for his virtuosity, superb musicianship and the integrity of his playing. By the age of 21, Leonidas Kavakos had already won three major competitions: the Sibelius Competition in 1985, and the Paganini and Naumburg competitions in 1988. He now enjoys residencies with renowned orchestras worldwide, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
This album was released a year ahead of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary in 2020 and captures Kavakos as soloist and conductor on the composer’s monumental Violin Concerto, as well as beloved chamber works spanning Beethoven’s compositional output.
