Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holiday Tree Ornament
Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holiday Tree Ornament
On October 1, 1934, Mrs. Frederic W. Upham presided over the inaugural meeting of the Woman's Campaign Committee of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a volunteer group dedicated to selling season tickets for the 1934/35 Season. The spirit of giving has continued ever since, as this group of extraordinary volunteers — later called the Women's Association and currently the League of the CSOA — continues to play a vital role in the daily life of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association. Countless hours are dedicated annually to produce numerous programs including educational activities directed toward all age levels, youth auditions, an annual luncheon for musicians, participation in Symphony Ball and Corporate Night, social events and fundraising efforts.
For many years, volunteers decorated a holiday tree at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, one of many cultural institutions and corporations to put their stamp on the holiday season in one of the nation's busiest airports. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association's 2024 holiday ornament celebrates over 90 years of volunteer activity on behalf of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and pays homage to the annual holiday tree that once graced the O'Hare Airport terminals.
Each ornament is handmade in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and is finished with 24-karat gold over polished brass. All detailing is screen printed and etched. Presented in a white decorative box stamped with a line drawing of the tree topper.
