At the turn of the century, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra went deep into its archives to collect compelling historic recordings of the CSO — presented here in a 10-disc box set with an accompanying booklet. The recordings here represent nearly all the orchestra’s music directors in the twentieth century, as well as notable guest conductors such as Carlo Maria Giulini, Leopold Stokowski and Bruno Walter, in repertoire ranging from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Elliott Carter.
