Born in Vienna in 1904, Erica Morini entered the Vienna Conservatory at age seven — its youngest (and first female) student. She made her Viennese debut at the age of twelve, and the following year she performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto under Arthur Nikisch. Following her sensational American debut in New York City at the age of seventeen, with critics comparing her to Heifetz, she began her recording career with the Victor Talking Machine Company. Captured here in remastered form by Mark Obert-Thorn are Morini’s recordings for Victor: a set of acoustic recordings from 1921-1924 and electronic recordings from 1941 and 1945, including Tchaikovsky’s classic Violin Concerto with Désiré Defauw and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
