Jimmy López: Symphonic Canvas (CD)
Jimmy López: Symphonic Canvas (CD)
“So much to enjoy in these two broad orchestral works; both are wild flights of symphonic fancy, filled with color and drama. The Fort Worth Symphony gleams.” — BBC Music Magazine
Drawing inspiration from Cervantes, Jimmy López's Symphony No. 1 (The Travails of Persiles and Sigismunda) reflects and explores the atmosphere of Cervantes’ writing. His “Symphonic Canvas” from Bel Canto collects orchestral music and moments from his two-act opera of the same name based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Ann Patchett. Together, these literary-inspired works paint a portrait of a modern composer, whose diverse background as a Peruvian composer, a student in Helsinki and California resident has inspired a unique perspective and sound treasured in classical music today.
