Joe Hisaishi in Vienna (CD)

Capturing Joe Hisaishi’s conducting debut at the Vienna Musikverein, Joe Hisaishi in Vienna features two world premiere recordings of symphonic works by the composer best known for his work with Studio Ghibli. The two works presented here — Hisaishi’s Second Symphony and Viola Saga with soloist Antoine Tamestit — are inspired by minimalism and the experimental compositions of friends and colleagues such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Terry Riley, as well as by the rich musical heritage of Japan and Western classical traditions.
