Mal Waldron’s Stardust & Starlight: Live at the Jazz Showcase presents a previously unissued 1979 performance by the enigmatic piano master at Joe Segal’s legendary Jazz Showcase in Chicago. Released by Resonance Records, the album features Waldron with bassist Steve Rodby, drummer Wilbur Campbell and special guest saxophonist Sonny Stitt on two tracks, including “Old Folks” and “Stardust.”
Mastered from the original tapes, this live set captures Waldron’s intensely personal piano voice in a direct, intimate trio setting, with Stitt adding lyrical fire to the closing selections. Featuring standards including “All Alone,” “Round Midnight” and “Stella by Starlight,” Stardust & Starlight offers a vivid archival portrait of one of jazz’s most distinctive pianists in performance.
