Rachmaninov Variations, Trifonov (CD)
Rachmaninov Variations, Trifonov (CD)
“The Philadelphians under Yannick Nézet-Séguin provide sterling support for Trifonov’s stunning pyrotechnics. There are also moments of magical repose, Trifonov achieving astonishing beauty of tone and atmosphere . . . this is clearly an outstanding version in a crowded field.” — BBC Music Magazine
Paying tribute to his illustrious musical forefather, pianist Daniil Trifonov presents a fascinating program consisting of three sets of Rachmaninov variations: the hyper-virtuosic Variations on a Theme of Corelli, the rare Variations on a Theme of Chopin and the famous and much-loved Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Also included is Trifonov’s own composition, Rachmaniana, which finds inspiration in the great composer’s works.
