Shostakovich: The Cello Concertos, Yo-Yo Ma (CD)

Yo-Yo Ma presents inspired performances of Shostakovich's two cello concertos. The First, penned for Mstislav Rostropovich, is a famously demanding piece that was an early landmark in Ma's own career. The introspective Second was the composer's 60th birthday present to himself. Ma is joined by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and conductor Andris Nelsons.
