Smetana: Má Vlast, Kubelík (CD)

Depicting aspects of Bohemia’s countryside, history and legends, Smetana’s Má Vlast is a sweeping six-movement work comprised of individual tone poems written with sublime orchestration and creativity, emblematic of nationalist trends of the late nineteenth century. The work has been championed by countless Czech composers since its completion in 1879 — perhaps none more than Rafael Kubelík, who recorded the work multiple times with some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic and this legendary recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
