Williams: Across the Stars, Mutter (CD)
“You can hear that Mutter really believes in this music as she puts her heart and soul into the performances, many themes taking on a hitherto unimagined intensity under her bow . . . Williams’ melodic gifts are well known and oft celebrated, but hearing these pieces reimagined by a composer free of the constraints of film frames and timecodes is not just a thrill, it’s often revelatory.” — BBC Music Magazine
Amid his work on Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, John Williams curated, created and conducted a complete album with acclaimed violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. This album presents his personal selection of iconic themes and rediscovered gems from more than 40 years of his music for film. The selections include legendary themes and motifs from Star Wars and Harry Potter, alongside new versions of themes from Cinderella Liberty and Dracula — two scores originally written in the 1970s and rarely performed since then.
Recorded in April 2019 at Sony Pictures Studios’ Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage in Culver City, California, Williams leads the Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles.
